Cruise, General Motors (GM), and Honda recently inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a joint venture focused on providing a driverless ride-hailing service in Japan. Their plan includes an initial rollout in central Tokyo, set to commence in early 2026.

The proposed ride-hailing service will deploy the Cruise Origin, a purpose-built autonomous vehicle created through the collaborative efforts of GM and Honda. This autonomous vehicle is designed to accommodate up to six passengers, and GM plans to manufacture approximately 500 units of the Cruise Origin at its Factory ZERO Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly plant in Michigan for the initial launch.
