It should surprise no one that the R&D behind the world’s top electric motorcycles is intense. Designing, developing, and manufacturing batteries and electric motors takes years and vast resources. This is exactly what happens at Energica.

Energica and Siemens Extend Collaboration

The Italian EV motorcycle maker Energica has been working with German tech giant Siemens for some time. Recently, they announced that their partnership has been renewed for another three years. Energica uses Siemens’ advanced software solutions to develop and test its battery technology—key to designing high-performance EV batteries.

Advanced Software Solutions in Action

Energica employs a range of Siemens’ advanced software solutions. Siemens’ NX, an advanced CAD (Computer-Aided Design) software, allows designers to virtually layout and test multiple configurations, particularly for the bike’s battery. Simcenter Amesim enables design engineers to virtually assess and optimize performance. Used alongside Simcenter STAR-CCM+ CFD software, engineers can run virtual tests on batteries under simulated real-world conditions.

Siemens claims its design and testing technology helps companies reduce development time by up to 75% compared to typical CFD approaches.

Leadership Insights

Giampiero Testoni, CTO of Energica Motor Company, commented on the partnership:

“Cutting-edge technological development is the basis of every Energica project. This is why we have dedicated important efforts in the field of battery technology, for which we have developed exclusive know-how over the last decade. Thanks to the experience gained, we can manage the entire process, from the design to the assembly of the batteries.”

Puneet Sinha, Senior Director of Siemens’ Battery Industry initiatives, added:

“Siemens is proud to continue its collaboration with Energica and support its innovation with our transformative digital twin-based software solutions and expertise. It’s another great example of how leaders and pioneers are adopting Siemens Xcelerator to explore the electrification of the mobility industry and build a sustainable battery industry.”

The Future of EV Motorcycles

Technology continues to drive the motorcycle industry forward, with manufacturers partnering with tech giants to optimize design, development, and testing processes. In today’s digital age, it’s easier for designers and engineers to consider every variable. The result is better performing, more reliable, and more efficient machines.

Though it may sound like a lot of jargon, all this data gathered in virtual simulations somehow translates reliably into the real world.
